Campbell’s Soup goes viral.
The rules were simple: brainstorm, research, and produce a TikTok video featuring Campbell’s Soup and make it go viral.
This project took place back in March 2023 during my second semester of Creative Communications. Because I knew the goal of this video was to have it go viral, I decided to go with a trend that was performing really well on the platform which was “take the prize or double it up and give it to the next person.” This idea had two questions that needed answering which was: how much soup will I be willing to spend on this assignment and what location would have enough foot traffic to be given enough attempts at asking people. The answer was $50 worth of Campbell’s Soup and RRC Polytech because I knew students would be an easy target and probably wouldn’t give me a hard time. When it came time to film this video, I knew that I needed to figure out a quick pitch for students to be part of my video.
I eventually came up with, “hey student, could you please help me with a school project that requires you to be in a TikTok video that will be posted online?” To my surprise, all of the students in my video agreed. Please enjoy the video.
So how did the video do?
I decided to post the video on March 25, 2023. At this time my account had zero videos posted and I was being followed by 20 of my friends. I liked the video so much that I decided to post it on my personal Instagram account where It was my first Instagram Reel and I had about 950 followers.
I’ve went ahead and pulled up results from both videos and was shocked at how well the video performed on Instagram compared to TikTok. I was pleased to see my video gain some serious traction by hitting 123,000 views and was a testament to the trend I decided to jump on. I think a logical factor on why the Reel performed better than the TikTok was the traction my video got from my 950 followers on Instagram. Before going to bed that night, I remember having about 200 likes and 15 comments on the video. I was surprised to see how well the video was doing when I woke up the next morning.
