Here’s what my three weeks at Sport Manitoba looked like.
I was fortunate enough to have spent my first three-week placement with Sarah Tone (Head of Communications at Sport Manitoba) and the marketing team. Shout-out to Sarah for giving me the confidence and guidance to find what I’m truly passionate about. She gave me opportunities to shadow and work alongside each member of the marketing team which helped me gain a better understanding of what roles each team member played.
Among all of my contributions, my work with KidSport Manitoba in developing and implementing a new social media marketing calendar and strategy was my proudest achievement during my three weeks there. This involved performing an audit of there current social media accounts and suggesting content pillars that were in-line with their goal of increasing the number of grant sign-ups they receive each quarter.
My writing was published!
I had so much fun working as a copywriter for Sport Manitoba. Writing Ariella’s staff feature announcing her new role was a fun project that was posted on the website. What I really appreciated about my time at Sport Manitoba was the different types of writing I was doing. What I mean by that was the following writing project I was assigned was a research piece on preventing injury while playing sports. I was given a sport to do research on, find reliable sources to back my claims, and once completed, have it looked over by the head Physiotherapist who’d approve everything was accurate. Another fun writing project I had the chance of doing was an article about perfect posture in the workplace which involved repurposing a presentation into an article that’s both easy to read and backed by research.
Key Takeaway: collaborating and having another set of eyes edit and look at your writing is so helpful in bringing the best quality of work possible.
